Welcome New Students!

Welcome, new students, to St. Thomas University and to the Office of Information Technology [OIT] blog. This blog will be updating with new information, technology and events. For all you new students, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions, Resources and Contact Information below.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't access MyBobcat/email/Canvas? What do I do?

The first part to note is that as a student your MyBobcat Portal, Outlook and Canvas all have the same username and password. If you are able to sign into at least one of these, you are not in need of a password reset. Please give us a call, our contact information is at the bottom of this page.

Are my username and email the same? Are they different?

Your username is the first letter of your first name followed by your seven-digit ID number. Your email often--but not always--is the first letter of your first name, followed by your last name. So if I am for example, a student called John Smith, my username and email would be as follows:

Username: j0123456
Email: JSmith@stu.edu

Your email is an alias, an easy-to-understand name used in place of your username. When signing into any STU resource you should always use your username not your email.

Why does my email look so strange?

Please keep in mind that the system automatically generates emails, and conflicts--such as a John Smith and a Jaden Smith--can result in extra numbers or letters being attached to an email.

Example: JSmith3b4c2@stu.edu

Why can't I connect to the Wi-Fi?

You're more than likely not registered on the Wi-Fi. STU_Wifi requires that everyone using it either register as a Guest--which is only viable for 24 hours--or register as themselves.

If you're trying to connect via your phone or laptop, you must sign-in using your credentials.

If you're attempting to connect to the wi-fi on any other device (Roku, Xbox, etc.) then you must add the MAC address to your account. See below.
